II. Implementation

Activities carried out to implement this Resolution
Fundraising
Describe the results/achievements of the activities
The IUCN Secretariat has initiated a number of fundraising approaches throughout the year some of them in collaboration with the SSC.
After an extensive consultation, a compelling value proposition, tailored on the specific target audiences has been developed and tested. Work done to define budget architecture, develop the prospect donor pipeline and engagement strategy.
Secured 1,5 M CHF from a Swiss Based Foundation, 150K CHF from a Swiss Based foundation and 600K from a EU Based Foundation are to be confirmed by end of Sept 23. GEF grant fund secured. At least 3 other deals under negotiation.
For States and other public entities, the focus will be on the pivotal role IUCN Data and Knowledge plays in measuring both the baseline and the progress vs the newly adopted Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
For Private Philanthropy such as Foundations, High Net Worth Individuals, ‘Patrons of Nature’ and individual giving, the ask is centred around the need to rapidly unlock vital resources to maintain our tools with current data that has been credibly verified as there is no alternative or substitute force for conservation. A Red List @ 60 campaign was launched in the CBD CoP in September 2024 and supported by various side events in other meetings.

The Director General of IUCN convened the first meeting of the new Red List Partnership Committee in London during April 2024. This Resolution was discussed and the importance of raising resources for some of the product-critical activities was agreed. A consultant was hired to develop a resource mobilization strategy for the IUCN Red List. A campaign was launched in October to celebrate 12 months of the Red List @ 60 - and this will conclude at the World Conservation Congress. Awareness of the IUCN Red List was increased through side-events at the wildlife trade convention (CITES), biodiversity convention (CBD) and climate change (UNFCCC) convention meetings. (Ongoing)

New project funding was secured for the Species Information Service.
