WCC 2020 Res 135 - Activity Report

WCPA's Protected Areas and One Health Task Force convened a meeting of 17 members in Vienna, Austria, from 29 April to 2 May 2024. During the meeting, the Task Force finalised their Theory of Change and Strategic Plan. To enhance One Health engagement with protected and conserved areas (PCAs), the Task Force mapped existing One Health organisations, initiatives, and reports to identify opportunities for increased PCA involvement in a way that would also benefit the missions of these One Health entities. Following the Vienna meeting, the Task Force will continue this work using real-world or hypothetical case studies to illustrate the benefits of greater PCA engagement for One Health audiences. The meeting was hosted by the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna.

WCPA members attended regional and global meetings on One Health.

WCPA's new Task Force on Protected Areas and One Health published an article in PARKS in 2024 that
describes how PCAs can be a nature-based solution for reducing pathogen
spread, with emphasis on the relevance, challenges, and opportunities for
