Description and results/achievements of activities:
The Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), classified as globally endangered (EN), is found in various regions of Anatolia. Türkiye hosts the most crucial European breeding populations of this species. In addition to Turkish breeders, individuals from the Balkans and Eastern Europe migrate through Türkiye twice a year. In 2021, we identified critical breeding sites in Mersin, and in 2022, we began insulating dangerous electric poles to reduce electrocution risks. In 2024, we expanded our research, identifying more nesting sites and foraging areas used by the species. As part of the Shepherd Network we created, we also collect data from migrating shepherds and others, tracking habitats of Egyptian vultures and other wildlife, such as cranes, storks, wild goats, and Eurasian lynxes. This allows us to monitor the area, detect emerging threats, and respond more rapidly.

Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken
In 2022, we insulated 248 electric poles in Mersin, Adana, and Ankara. In 2023, we insulated 100 more poles in Mersin, covering a total of 348 poles and securing a 40 km stretch of power lines. Our research in Mersin has revealed important nesting and foraging areas. In 2024, we will assess breeding success. We also presented our findings at the Global Egyptian Vulture Conference, and our study was published in the African Journal and Acta Zoologica Bulgarica.
