We study cases of ecocide during the full-scale russian-Ukrainian war. We have established a group of scientists conducting field-based research into the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Reservoir in Ukraine, which represents one of the largest known examples of ecocide.

We update field-based data on the environmental consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant every three months and publish the results in scientific articles. We also study war-related destruction of ecosystems and protected areas. This evidence contributes to documenting ecocide in armed conflicts and may support the international application of Ukraine’s experience, where ecocide is recognised in criminal law.
