The full-scale russian-Ukrainian war has caused significant damage to PAs, resulting in the destruction of some and the military occupation of others. In 2022–2023, we coordinated assistance to a number of PAs affected by the war, in coordination with the FZT. Following this, we established a dedicated charitable foundation specialising in mobilising resources to support the management of protected area institutions.

The Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) conducts systematic monitoring of the use of natural resources within protected areas, including preventing harmful logging practices carried out under the guise of firewood harvesting for local communities
