France has recently updated its regulatory framework, transitioning to “France Crédits Biodiversité” program, marking a significant scaling-up that translates into a target of 15 M€ raised for 30 sites by 2030. Various French stakeholders are involved (banks, public institutions, NGOs, etc.).

At the European level, work on the nature credit roadmap is continuing with the goal of establishing a European framework for nature credits by 2027; France is fully committed in those discussions.

Scientific/technical activities
|
France and UK launched in 2023 the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits (IAPB) to develop international principles on integrity of biodiversity credits and to promote harmonization of national biodiversity credit markets that meet these criteria. FR and UK still finance the IAPB, which is working on: 1) intergov convening and cap. building, 2) creation of soft standards, 3) supporting countries to develop their legal frameworks.
