AsRSG Chair briefed the Minister of Forestry (Jakarta, 6 May 2026) on Sumatran and Javan rhino recovery; joint follow-up with SSC AsESG. At DG KSDAE's request, co-developed with the Indonesian Rhino Conservation Stakeholders Forum a draft ToR for an Indonesian Rhino Task Force (Ministerial Decree). Reviewed the draft Sumatran SRAK 2025-2035. Indonesian govt, BRIN, IPB and NGO leaders now co-chair AsRSG sub-committees.

Ministry decrees established drafting teams for new 10-year Strategy and Action Plans (SRAK) for both species: Sumatran (May 2026; PVA first, TFCA-funded, team met Aug 2026) and Javan (ALeRT-led, 6-month timeline, PVA mandatory). AsRSG members take part, AsRSG supplied a shared budget-costing toolkit and offered support for a new Javan population estimate. Ranger training delivered at Leuser (300 FKL rangers) and Ujung Kulon.

Convene stakeholders/Networking
|
Fortnightly partner calls for each species (YABI, FKL, ALeRT, IRF, Re:wild, WCN, IPB, vets; AsRSG Chair attends) act as the working national coordination platform. Ujung Kulon partners formed a UKNP Communication Group and an integrated protection plan (June 2026). Sumatran partners agreed one collaborative 5-year proposal (Aceh, Lampung, E. Kalimantan); AsRSG provided the format. Ministry-IPB-Re:wild-Colossal ART MoU in preparation.

|
SRS Way Kambas: 10 rhinos, two pregnancies recorded. East Aceh SRS nearly complete; FKL surveys located rhinos in SE and South Aceh for possible rescue. Govt approved rescue of Bornean female Pari for Kelian SRS; simulation done, boma built, SOPs with DG. Javan: Minister approved second translocation to JRSCA (28 Jul 2026), SOP revised, genetic sampling under way; 25 individuals identified from 2025 camera traps, calf Jan 2026.

Convictions secured for the 2018-2023 Javan rhino killings; no rhino poaching confirmed in the period. Ujung Kulon patrols consolidated under one UKP system: YABI RPUs, ALeRT patrol teams, K9, marine patrol and 20 real-time cameras at entry points (ALeRT/WPS); ALeRT (Re:wild) adding a marine response unit. Way Kambas: 200+ illegal entrants identified by camera trap, action with park and police. FKL deployed intelligence-led teams.

New or renewed funding in the period from Re:wild (rescue in Aceh and E. Kalimantan; ART with IPB), Sumatra TFCA (SRAK, translocation), FOLU Net Sink, IUCN (BBS patrols), WCN, IRF, Save the Rhino and WWF. AsRSG circulated a Funding Profile to institutional and zoo donors, secured fiscal sponsorship, applied for an SSC microgrant and is helping partners take the collaborative Sumatran proposal to donors. AsRSG itself has no core funds.
