During the reporting period, the Secretariat prepared three documents to support the Task Force.
The first is a draft implementation plan and proposal. It sets out a staged approach, beginning with an assessment of the need for revision (Step 1), followed by options for revising the Policy Statement if Council confirms that this is necessary (Step 2). It also describes the decision pathway through the Task Force, the Programme and Policy Committee and Council, with an indicative timeline and budget. The draft is currently under review by IUCN Secretariat Policy and Governance staff.
The second is a pair of draft Step 1.1 "temperature" surveys. One is addressed to IUCN Members and one is a separate instrument for Indigenous Peoples' Organisation Members, reflecting their distinct status as rights-holders and the principle of free, prior and informed consent. They are designed to gauge views on sustainable use and the Union's appetite for different forms of engagement, so that any further consultation can be designed accordingly.
The third is a draft communications and engagement strategy to support participation by Members, Commissions and partners.
No activity reports were received during the period.
The Task Force is in the process of reviewing the draft documents and once finslied the implementation plan will be submitted to the Programme and Policy Committee and to Council for consideration. Implementation of Step 1 would begin once the plan is approved and funding is secured.
