In response to resolution 8.049 a number of preparatory founding activities have been undertaken. A joint civic space task force between the global group and CEESP has been constituted, co-chaired by Sarah Terkes and Peter Larsen. Exploratory dialogues have been held with IUCN councilors as well as the membership unit. A road map meeting is being scheduled for Spring 2027 to identify priority actions. Integration with wider Union efforts on environmental defenders is also being sought.
