apparently it is a discussion but the pain of establishing the inter-Commission Task force on Dams is putting somefo the commisioners off from calling for this - the procedures, the length of time it took, the alignment needs etc.

Fundraising
something we are trying to do in ongoing concept and proposals, and supporting ARO with their fundraisisng on this topic along with the Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARRA) in Inida.

We have a concept, SPRINGBACK, borne out of the Abu Dhabi Congress that ongoing fundraising is focused on with IWMI.

Policy influencing/advocacy
We are lobbying for greater awareness on Springs at the UN Water Conference 2026. We proposed springs as a flagship initiative with Japan and Egypt as co-Chairs of the Water for Planet interactive Dialogue C. This was not accepted, but we are lobbying for better awareness and inclusion of springs across our interactions at the Conference.

Challenges / lessons learned
Challenges / lessons learned Description
Lack of awareness / engagement

Awareness around the importance of springs is an issue - and most of the mapping has been done in the US; not globally. Also need to focus on the role and value and potential loss of springs - the selling point is in their services, not the biodiversity issues first - to get attention and to rasie awareness and funds.
