Ce rapport offre une synthèse des principales informations sur la mise en oeuvre de la Convention sur le patrimoine mondial en Afrique, ainsi que des orientations sur la façon dont la Convention peut contribuer aux efforts mondiaux en faveur de la conservation et au développement durable à l’avenir.

This thematic study focuses on the contribution the World Heritage Convention can make to wilderness conservation around the world. It provides pragmatic guidance to the Convention and its many partners for strengthening protection of wilderness by promoting the profound linkages between culture and wild nature.
La Lista de Patrimonio Mundial incluye 156 sitios que explícitamente son reconocidos por sus excepcionales valores en biodiversidad, y representan todos los principales ecosistemas del mundo. Sin embargo, aún existen áreas de excepcionales valores en biodiversidad que todavía no son parte de esta red de ‘sitios de Patrimonio Mundial por su biodiversidad’. Para abordar este tema, la UICN y el PNUMA-WCMC han creado este estudio temático global, con un enfoque en el ámbito terrestre.
The marine World Heritage thematic study was written to provide guidance to States Parties and conservation practitioners on how to best apply the World Heritage Convention in the oceans and seas. It also analyses the current biogeographic coverage of marine World Heritage sites (mWHS) and identifies broad gaps in representation.

L’étude propose un cadre scientifique comme fondation pour un ensemble de caractéristiques bien équilibrées et représentatives pouvant avoir une valeur universelle exceptionnelle, afin d’étayer les choix lors de la proposition ou de l’inscription de sites.

La Liste du patrimoine mondial compte 156 explicitement reconnus pour leurs valeurs exceptionnelles du point de vue de la biodiversité. Ensemble, ils représentent les principaux écosystèmes de la planète. Or, certains sites présentant des valeurs exceptionnelles attachées à la biodiversité ne font pas encore partie de ce réseau de « biens du patrimoine mondial de la biodiversité ». Pour combler à cette lacune, lUICN et le PNUE-WCMC ont élaboré cette étude thématique mondiale, en se concentrant sur le domaine terrestre.
