Cumulative environmental impacts in Antarctica : minimisation and management. Proceedings of the IUCN workshop on cumulative impacts in Antarctica

These proceedings document the initial results of a joint initiative by IUCN and the World Bank to address, with key stakeholders, one of the most controversial issues in environment and development today. In April 1997, IUCN and the World Bank Group jointly hosted a two-day workshop in Gland, Switzerland to discuss the findings of an internal World Bank review of 50 large dams financed by the Bank.
Intended to promote effective application of the biodiversity Convention in coastal and marine environments. It is based in large part on the recommendation of the "Jakarta Mandate" agreed to by the Parties to the Convention at their Second Conference in Jakarta in November 1995 and which identified the major threats to marine and coastal biodiversity and the principal legal and policy measures needed to address them.
