The intent of this Strategy is to set the national priority actions needed for the establishment of new marine protected areas in Lebanon and for the proper management of existing and new marine protected areas (MPAs), and to define the type of interventions needed at technical, research, regulatory, policy, institutional, financial, educational, capacity building, communication and promotion levels.
During recent years there has been increasing interest in restoring the forest landscapes of Lebanon. A number of initiatives supporting different reforestation activities are being developed in the country. Most initiatives, however, have been focusing on no more than three tree species, partly because of the lack of technical references for native species production.
The film depicts the environmentally-disastrous oil slick caused by Israels bombing of the Jiyyeh power plant in south Lebanon on July 13 and 15, 2006. It shows how the prevailing currents and winds carried the oil slick north, polluting more than 150 km of Lebanese shoreline and releasing about 15,000 tones of toxic fuel into the Mediterranean.
On the 13th and 15th of July 2006, Israel bombed the Jiyyeh power plant. The war on natural resources and people's livelihoods began... The Documentary covers the complicated process that the different national and international parties faced while dealing with the environmental catastrophe. It also exposes the suffering of fishermen who are already struggling to make a living in a complex political and economic environment.
