Capacity building

BIOPAMA’s capacity-development strategy in Central and West Africa aims to encourage the managers and administrators of the protected areas (PA) to use the regional information system, or Regional Observatory for Protected Areas and Biodiversity.

El Marco Estratégico para el Desarrollo de Capacidades (MEDC) es el resultado de un amplio programa de actividades y consultas llevadas a cabo durante 2013 y 2015, incluyendo  el Congreso Mundial de Parques  de Sídney celebrado en Australia noviembre de 2014. El MEDC tiene el objetivo de complementar, guiar y ampliar las recomendaciones  relativas al desarrollo de capacidades  incluidas en el Compromiso de Sídney que resultó del Congreso.

La stratégie de développement des capacités du programme BIOPAMA de l’Afrique centrale et occidentale vise à encourager les gestionnaires et administrateurs des aires protégées (AP) à utiliser le Système régional d’information, ou Observatoire régional sur la biodiversité et les aires protégées.

The Strategic Framework for Capacity Development (SFCD) is the result of a widespread programme of activities and consultations during 2013 and 2015, including the World Parks Congress in Sydney Australia in November 2014. The SFCD is intended to complement, guide, and extend the recommendations on capacity development included in the Promise of Sydney that resulted from the Congress.

Our oceans and coasts are the origin of life on earth, an important food source, and crucial for the global ecological equilibrium,  yet despite their global significance, marine and coastal ecosystems face a wide array of threats. It was in the spirit of making enhanced concerted efforts at the global, regional, national and local levels that the Blue Solutions Initiative was created.

Le renforcement des compétences en « Gestion des aires protégées » demeure une priorité pour l’aménagement et la conservation des parcs et réserves en Afrique de l’ouest et centrale. Depuis 2008, plus de 150 acteurs (État, ONG, privé) et jeunes diplômés de plus de 15 pays ont suivi avec succès l’une des deux formations proposées par l’UICN en collaboration avec l’Université Senghor (Diplôme d’Université et Master).

Building capacities in protected area management is a priority for the development and conservation of parks and reserves in West Africa, since a wide range of knowledge and skills is required to manage protected areas, and since the training provided by most water and forestry departments does not include specific modules on protected areas.
