Carbon emissions

This report provides, for the first time, a comprehensive global-scale assessment of the benefits, risks, and trade-offs of energy efficiency technologies and their combined effects when deployed alongside low-carbon electricity supply technologies. The results of the report show that the majority of efficiency technologies, used for mobility, buildings and industry, bring environmental co-benefits beyond greenhouse gas mitigation, including reduced impacts on the environment, health and natural resources.

La Déclaration sur les forêts et le changement climatique, adoptée sur la base d’un consensus par le Dialogue sur les forêts, a donné lieu à quatre dialogues internationaux multipartenaires auxquels ont participé plus de 250 responsables de la forêt venus du monde entier, qui ont formulé des recommandations sur les mesures à prendre et établi des notes de synthèse thématiques.

En esta publicación se identifican y analizan las cuestiones fundamentales para la formulación y aplicación de marcos jurídicos nacionales y subnacionales para las actividades de REDD. El informe se basa en resultados substantivos de nuestros casos de estudios nacionales, seleccionados cuidadosamente por sus variadas geografías, cubierta forestal y tasas de deforestación, así como estadios de los preparativos de REDD.

This study examines the four options being considered by the European Commission for dealing with indirect land use change (ILUC) arising from the use of biofuels under the Renewable Energy Directive. An alternative approach is developed that would encourage producers and growers to undertake practices that mitigate ILUC. This study identifies a range of ILUC mitigation practices and recommends a market mechanism to encourage such activities through the use of a carbon credit scheme.

Although the rules regarding REDD have not been set, it is already clear that the extent to which an individual country will be able to attract international investment and REDD payments will depend to a considerable extent on its ability to put in place a system that rewards forest managers who are changing their behaviour to reduce deforestation and degradation. In other words, they need to establish a benefit distribution system (BDS) that is transparent and efficient, and is seen to reward those actually providing the (emissions reduction) service.
