Climate proof : a four step guide for coastal projects

Scientific evidence suggests that variations in temperature, weather patterns and sea level will impact coastal ecosystems and communities. This easy to use four step guide has been developed to help coastal project managers effectively address the potential impacts of climate change and enhance the resilience and adaptive capacity of projects.

A workbook for assessing management effectiveness of marine protected areas in the Western Indian Ocean

This workbook was produced in order to test and adapt the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) methodologies for use at marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Western Indian Ocean. The workbook is designed to allow for a dynamic process of MPA management based on the lessons learnt from pilot assessments in Kenya, Tanzania and the Seychelles. The method takes into account the management issues faced in the Western Indian Ocean, is cost effective, and encourages self-assessment by the managers.

Assessment of management effectiveness in selected marine protected areas in the Western Indian Ocean

This report provides results of testing the Workbook for Assessing Management Effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas in the Western Indian Ocean at eight pilot sites in three countries. The assessment looks at not only the impacts but also the effectiveness of the management process. It does not require the collection of new data, unless that can be done quickly but provides a "snap-shot" of management effectiveness at a particular point in time, with recommendations for improvement.

Catchment management and coral reef conservation : a practical guide for coastal resource managers to reduce damage from catchment areas based on best practice case studies

This book aims to help people manage coral reefs and other coastal ecosystems; especially to solve problems that flow from nearby catchment (watershed) areas. Such catchment areas may be adjacent to the coral reef, or include areas a long way away and outside the jurisdiction and control of the coastal manager. This book introduces ways to reduce some of that damage through cooperation with people and industries upstream, based on the experiences of many coastal managers around the world.

Children's perception of the environment : a teacher's toolkit for investigating coastal and marine ecosystems in Asia

The goal of this toolkit is to help promote environmental stewardship and increase awareness of marine and coastal ecosystems among schoolchildren in Asia through the use of creative, investigative approaches. Investigative approaches allow schools to make the local environment relevant and interesting to children in coastal communities and help to reinforce the need for wise and sustainable management of our coastal and marine resources.
