Closing the knowledge-implementation gap in conservation science

Complete summary of the scientific knowledge currently available on closing of the knowledge-implementation gap in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Describes interdisciplinary and innovative uses of knowledge sources and knowledge mobilization practices to halt biodiversity loss under human-driven global environmental change.

Writing in the environmental sciences

This refreshingly clear guide provides environmental scientists and conservation professionals with an effective writing process that can be applied in a range of financial, political, or organizational contexts. Baker outlines a replicable seven-step writing formula based on practical experience that acknowledges the complexities inherent in the worlds of endangered species, habitat conservation, and recovery planning. Using the formula, scientists will be able to communicate confidently and successfully with a multitude of audiences.

Pacific islands meteorological services in action : a compendium of climate services case studies

In a large, diverse region like the Pacific, clear and concise communication of both successes and lessons learned is vital for further effective development. A workshop was created to help the participants develop stories to "tell the world what the Pacific is doing on climate services." The week-long writing workshop or "writeshop" created a space for climate service providers to learn outreach writing skills and how to analyse their own efforts. The writeshop was coordinated by SPREP and WMO with support from COSPPac and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

La comunicación, educación y conciencia pública (CEPA) : una caja de herramienta para personas que coordinan las estrategias nacionales de biodiversidad y los planes de acción

Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) are important instruments for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. CEPA provides the link from science and ecology to people’s social and economic reality. It supplies the oil for the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and deals with the processes that motivate and mobilize individual and collective action. It comprises a range of social instruments including information exchange, dialogue, education, and marketing.

Prudence, justice and the good life : a typology of ethical reasoning in selected European national biodiversity strategies

Communication, participation and education (CEPA) are considered key to the implementation of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). To improve biodiversity communication, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation commissioned an ethical expertise on good arguments in favour of biodiversity in 2011. This final report presents findings from an analysis of the German, Austrian, Swiss and EU biodiversity strategies with regard to their concepts of communication and ethics.
