Crocodiles : proceedings of the 11th Working Meeting of the Crocodile Specialist Group of the Species Survival Commission of the IUCN - The World Conservation Union convened at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, 2 to 7 August 1992 : volume 1
This book was written in Bribri narrative. Words and teachings are presented just as elders have shared them. The format of this work is simple but profound. Excerpts of animal stories are introduced with just enough detail to give you a glimpse of the Bribri world while leaving plenty of room to imagine.
The IUCN-SSC Crocodile Specialist Group conducted a review mission to Ethiopia from 26 April – 08 May 2014 to examine Ethiopia’s Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) conservation and management program and the status, and likely sustainability, of ranching and trophy hunting initiatives. The review involved considerable input about operations, and the legal and policy frameworks supporting those operations, from the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA), the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Regional State (SNNPRS), and the Arba Minch Crocodile Ranch (AMCR).
This report documents the results of field assessments undertaken to determine the distribution and status of the globally threatened crocodilian, Tomistoma schlegelii, in peat swamp areas of Peninsular Malaysia. The study was focused in, and around, Peninsular Malaysia’s two largest peat swamp forests; the North Selangor peat swamp forest and the Southeast Pahang peat swamp forest. Surveys were conducted over several weeks and coincided with the drier (low water) times of the year at the different sites.
The aim of the present report is to examine the changing context within which the reptile skin trade has existed (where we came from), the extent of the current industry and its regulatory strengths and weaknesses (where we are now), and what the future can or should bring (where we go from here).
