Chevron Upstream and Gas oil spill response planning guidance

This guidance document provides an overview of concepts important for understanding oil spill response planning and implementation for marine and coastal environments; however, much of the information can be applied to land-based operations as well. This guidance discusses the development of oil spill response efforts and identifies the key factors that might be important for reviewing a response system to determine if it is appropriate for the risks it seeks to address. Intended for internal Chevron use only.

Making cities resilient report 2012

This report is a product of cities' and local governments' efforts to protect their cities and make them safer and productive places to live and work. Drought contingency plans and planning in the Greater Horn of Africa : a desktop review of the effectiveness of drought contingency plans and planning in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia

This paper is a UNISDR contribution towards effective Drought Contingency Planning (DCP) for stakeholders and partners implementing drought risk reduction programmes in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA). It attempts to convert findings, concepts and guidelines into a guidance document from critical gaps to bridge general drought preparedness, contingency planning and early response. The paper points out that although 'Drought Contingency Plan' and 'Drought Contingency Planning' are used interchangeably, they are not identical.

Disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in the Pacific : an institutional and policy analysis

How to make cities more resilient : a handbook for local government leaders : a contribution to the Global Campaign 2010-2015

This Handbook for Local Government Leaders provides mayors, governors, councillors and others with a generic framework for risk reduction and points to good practices and tools that are already being applied in different cities for that purpose. It responds to the following key questions: WHY building disaster resilience is beneficial; WHAT kind of strategies and actions are required; and HOW to go about the task. Because cities, towns and municipalities differ in size, social, economic and cultural profiles and exposure to risk, each one will approach the tasks differently.

Monitoring disaster displacement in the context of climate change : findings of a study by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre

This study looks at natural disasters and forced displacement in the context of climate change. It has two aims: firstly, to provide an estimate of forced displacement related to disasters in 2008, specifi cally climate-related disasters; and secondly, to propose a methodology that could be applied to monitor disaster-related displacement on an ongoing basis. The study uses existing data sets on the impacts of natural disasters in 2008, crossreferences various sources, and individually investigates a number of events to estimate the numbers of persons displaced by disasters in 2008.
