The best we share

The UNESCO World Heritage Convention is one of the most widely ratified international treaties, and a place on the World Heritage List is a widely coveted mark of distinction. Building on ethnographic fieldwork at Committee sessions, interviews and documentary study, the book links the change in operations of the World Heritage Committee with structural nation-centeredness, vulnerable procedures for evaluation, monitoring and decision-making, and loose heritage conceptions that have been inconsistently applied.

Nature-based solutions in nationally determined contributions

Nature-based solutions (NbS) -- centred on the protection, restoration and sustainable management of the world's ecosystems -- have a vitally important role to play in addressing both the causes and consequences of climate change. As countries revise or prepare new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in support of the Paris Agreement in the run-up to 2020, there is a major opportunity to increase global ambition on climate change through strengthening the role of these natural solutions.

Resúmenes de los análisis de las propuestas de enmienda a los apéndices de CITES de UICN/TRAFFIC para la 18o reunión de la conferencia de las partes

CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) was opened for signature in Washington DC on 3rd March 1973, and to date has 182 Parties from across the world. If CITES is to remain a credible instrument for conserving species affected by trade, the decisions of the Parties must be based on the best available scientific and technical information. Recognizing this, IUCN and TRAFFIC have undertaken technical reviews of the proposals to amend the CITES Appendices.
