This Atlas comprise general information about natural calamities, main entities facing the threat (e.g. buildings, population, GDP), various types of vulnerabilities (physical, social, ecological, economic) and risks typical to Georgia’s territory.
Emerging evidence shows that the proximity to nature, including coastal environments, provides many benefits to human health and mental well-being. However, the environmental, social, and emotional impacts of climate change such as sea-level rise and increased flooding pose significant risks for coastal communities and may offset the benefits of living close to the coast.
This second edition of Environment and Tourism reflects changes in the relationship between tourism, society and the natural environment in the first decade of the new century. Alongside the updating of all statistics, environmental policy initiatives, examples and case studies new material has been added. This includes two new chapters: one on climate change and natural disasters and the other on the relationship between tourism and poverty.
In a large, diverse region like the Pacific, clear and concise communication of both successes and lessons learned is vital for further effective development. A workshop was created to help the participants develop stories to "tell the world what the Pacific is doing on climate services." The week-long writing workshop or "writeshop" created a space for climate service providers to learn outreach writing skills and how to analyse their own efforts.
This joint report considers the role and impact of environmental factors in securing human safety and sustained development of the eastern Caspian Sea region, including the parts of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan opening onto the Caspian Sea. Its analysis introduces a security perspective as it seeks to identify those environmental, socio-economic and political issues that are profoundly affecting the livelihoods of the populations and could lead to social tensions and instability.
