The Natural History of the Bahamas offers the most comprehensive coverage of the terrestrial and coastal flora and fauna on the islands of the Bahamas archipelago, as well as of the region's natural history and ecology. This series of the romance of natural history includes extinct species as well as fantastical species and other species. 

This book is an attempt to present natural history in an aesthetic fashion. The author writes in the preface, that he sought to paint a series of pictures, the reflections of scenes and aspects in nature, which in his own mind awaken poetic interest, leaving them to do their proper work.

In the present edition very great pains have been taken to render the book more worthy of the public notice. At least one third more matter has been introduced, and between thirty and forty new illustrations will be found in its pages.

Silva Gabreta is an international journal, which publishes peer-reviewed research papers, reviews, and short communications dealing with different aspects of natural history and nature protection especially within the territory of the Bohemian Forest. English is the major publication language; however, some contributions are published in German or Czech with an English abstract.

The Journal publishes papers and notes in the field of natural history, broadly defined as the study of organisms in their natural state, relevant to the eastern African region. Of particular interest are contributions that add to our knowledge of the status and conservation of biological diversity in the region. Since the biological landscape is to a large extent shaped by man, papers on ethnobiology are also featured.
