The threat of climate displacement looms large over a growing number of countries. Based on the more than six years of work by Displacement Solutions in ten climate-affected countries, academic work on displacement and climate adaptation, and the country-level efforts of civil society groups in several frontline countries, this report explores the key contention that land will be at the core of any major strategy aimed at preventing and resolving climate displacement.

Following several years of preparatory work across the globe, legal scholars, judges, UN officials and climate change experts from 11 countries came together to finalise a new normative framework aiming to strengthen the right of climate-displaced persons, households and communities. This resulted in the approval of the Peninsula Principles on Climate Displacement within States in August 2013.

North-East Badia, Jordan, is inhabited by half a million Syrian refugees and an equal number of Jordanians, whose livelihoods depend on agriculture. Working in the agricultural sector is characterized by low wages, long hours, poor working conditions, lack of occupational health and safety, and a high incidence of child labour. In addition, Jordan faces severe water scarcity, with annual demand roughly double the available supply and weak water resource management exacerbating the problem.

IUCN Bangladesh started a project with a view to minimize the human-elephant conflicts in and around the Kutupalong Camp. During 21 January - 13 February 2018, IUCN Bangladesh engaged a trained elephant survey team to find out the elephant presence and population size, recent human-elephant conflict situation, and possible intervention spots in and around the camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazaar. The IUCN team surveyed approximately 70 square kilometers of bare hills around the camp.

This volume is a consolidated collection of selected papers presented by participants in the thematic working groups of a four-day workshop in Geneva entitled "Practising and Promoting Sound Environmental Management in Refugee/Returnee Operations" organised by the Environment Unit in UNHCR's Engineering and Environmental Services Section (EESS).

Ce rapport passe en revue l'expérience acquise en matière de déplacement des populations touchées par les barrages en Afrique de l'Ouest au cours des 40 dernières années et examine les mécanismes qui permettent un partage plus équitable des bénéfices issus des barrages en veillant à ce que les conditions de vie des populations affectées soient améliorées.

This study looks at natural disasters and forced displacement in the context of climate change. It has two aims: firstly, to provide an estimate of forced displacement related to disasters in 2008, specifi cally climate-related disasters; and secondly, to propose a methodology that could be applied to monitor disaster-related displacement on an ongoing basis.
