Marine turtles of the Maldives

This field guide provides information on marine turtles in the Maldives. Marine turtles live permanently in a saltwater environment. Unlike tortoises, marine turtles have a streamlined shell and flippers that allow them to swim quickly, but this is not enough to survive in saltwater. Their breathing and circulatory systems have, therefore, adapted to marine life.

Resource dependence and social resilience in North Ari Atoll, Maldives

This report aimed at understanding resource use and dependence, perception of marine conservation policies, and adaptive capacities of communities of North Ari atoll, Maldives. It provides information on the social resilience of 8 local community islands in North Ari atoll, and identifies differences in gender role, in resource use and perception of enironmental issues. This study is key in understanding the value of ecosystem services in one atoll in the Maldives.

Status of coral bleaching in the Maldives 2016

This report represents the most comprehensive effort to monitor coral bleaching in the Maldives to date, using a combination of citizen science and expert scientist (governmental, academic and non-governmental) data sets.

Baseline assessment of coral reefs of North Ari : 2015 Expedition

Baseline assessment of coral reefs of North Ari is the first study to investigate spatial variation in reef condition within the context of different human pressures in one atoll in the Maldives. Specifically, this study aimed to investigate whether and how coral reef condition (fish biomass, structural complexity, coral composition and live cover, and foraminiferal assemblages) vary spatially among reefs with different population levels and/or under different management regimes within North Ari atoll.

Asia protected planet report 2014

Asia has a rich cultural and natural heritage, but rapid development, population growth and an erosion of traditional practices are resulting in habitat loss and degradation, which is putting protected areas in Asia at risk and leading to serious decline in the biodiversity they harbour. This report assesses progress towards the achievement of elements of Aichi Biodiversity Target 11, part of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets set by the Convention on Biological Diversity's Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, in 24 selected countries in East Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
