This new publication is a valuable tool to help increase the capacity of policy and decision makers to develop gender-responsive climate change policies and strategies that ensure women are engaged at all levels of the decision-making process.

Across the globe, women are heavily involved in the environmental sector, including in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and in adapting to and mitigating climate change.

In 2007, IUCN, UNDP, UNEP and WEDO recognized the need for a coordinated strategy among global institutions working on gender and climate change. The result was the establishment of the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA).
