This report reviews the morphology, climate, geology; natural resources; coastal erosion; ornithological importance; fish and fisheries; institutional considerations; and ethnographic aspects of the Danube Delta.

There is today a growing awareness that many wetlands are more valuable in their natural, or only slightly modified state, than if drained, dyked or built upon.

The directory aims to provide extensive background information on the protected area systems of the world, and to stimulate the continual process of review and update of information on protected areas.

Continuing on the same pattern as in the previous publication in the series, La Réserve de Conkouati, Congo : le secteur sud-est, the author has been coordinating activities of forests, wetlands and environmental impact assessment programmes around the Conkouati lagoon, which is of great interest

Nineteen papers examine the importance of the region’s wetlands resources and the critical conservation issues faced.

The special significance and characteristics of mountains often require that major portions of them be afforded extra care or protection. Many have received legislative recognition by designation as parks or reserves of various kinds, and there are some 430 mountain protected areas worldwide.

This Action Plan lists 39 endangered and Vulnerable species and 55 “Potentially Vulnerable” species; in all 94 marsupials and 2 monotreme species that need some form of conservation action.

This is the second edition of the Directory of crocodilian farming operations, first published in 1985.

The eleven technical papers are the culmination of the first phase to review the natural resource status of these two areas, to design a fully integrated wetland management project, and to develop public awareness of the project's approach to integrating wetlands conservation and development.

This Action Plan describes the conservation status of 23 species of the order Crocodylia found worldwide. The plan is arranged in three principal sections: an Introductory overview, Country accounts, and Species accounts.
