A comprehensive guide to fundamental ecological principles in tropical moist forest lands. This edition has been revised to encompass our increased knowledge and understandings of the complexities of forest management. It addresses the cross-cutting issues: the effects of government policies, land allocation and infrastructure development in forest lands. An analysis is made regarding various forest uses: forests for wood, forests for agriculture and forests for nature conservation and environmental protection.

Papers presented at a symposium on the legal problems of the conservation of wetlands, jointly organized the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and the Groupe des zones humides of the Société française pour le droit de l’environnement. The meeting, attended by almost 100 participants representing 25 countries, was held in Lyon, France, in September 1987. General presentations of the international aspects of wetlands conservation and the functioning of the Convention are followed by individual case studies and country reports. A great amount of detail on administrative practices of selected countries was obtained through the use of a questionnaire, which is produced in an Annex to the book.

As agriculture intensifies, the extent of these already scattered sites and their species richness is declining. This report brings together information on the status, distribution, vulnerability and current conservation of primarily lowland grasslands in eight countries plus the western Republics of the former USSR.
