Der Acheloos : zerstörung einer Flusslandschaft

The environmental impact of a large-scale project of dams, reservoirs and diversion of the river's course of the River Acheloos. This project has been made possible by EC support !! The idea is to irrigate cotton plantations. The dams and the river diversion will not only destroy the middle and lower course of this natural river. Too little water will reach the extensive delta to supply the lagoons of Etoliko and Messolonghi with fresh water. This area is a Ramsar site and it is protected by the Wild Bird Directive of the same European Community which is destroying it...
