Description

There are 357 species of birds breeding within the assessment region, which consists of the whole of the Arabian Peninsula, plus Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, including offshore islands and the Socotra archipelago. This assessment has two main objectives: to assist in regional conservation planning by assessing the status and distribution of all species occurring within the region; and to develop a network of regional experts to support future assessments and the updating of the information on these species. One of the  main direct outputs of this assessment is this report on the status of the breeding birds of the Arabian region, including a Red List assessment of all the species, an identification of the main threats for each species, and a spatial representation of the centres of species richness and threats.
