Implementation
Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Convene stakeholders/Networking
Fundraising
Scientific/technical activities
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
During 2017, the Task Team was reorganised using the following steps:
• Task Team participants and Offset Policy team interviewed to learn how to improve such processes moving forward
• Existing members from the task team signaled interest to continue and the previous task team came to an end.
• A mapping of interests and geographies related to primary forests was conducted to inform the composition of the “reinvigorated task team”.
• Discussions have been held with the Resolution focal points to design a way forward. The Focal points consulted with Commission chairs, Commission specialists groups, members and experts to nominate new members.
• Discussions have been held with the Chair of the Oil Palm Task Team to seek synergies
• TORs have been developed for the Task Team and these were validated by the Task Team
• A strategy was developed to involve indigenous peoples and especially IUCN’s members in the new category of Indigenous Peoples Organisations
• A plan has been made to identify a chair for the group, work with chair to convene group, and plan a face to face meeting with group to work on first draft policy and related work items in the TOR.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The old Task Team from Resolution WCC-2012-Res-060 had to be revitalised. Gaps were discovered in representation across groups and new candidates have been identified. See above

All of this work was done without resources for staff time for the Secretariat Focal Point, which made prioritising the work difficult, given the institutional priority of funded projects.

Fund raising to facilitate in-person meeting of all Task Team members in 2018 or 2019 is needed. Some funding has been identified but the full funding needed is still lacking.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Primary Forest Task Team workshop and possible meetings/workshops with Commissions and including Indigenous Peoples Members.

Developing a draft policy statement for IUCN on primary forests and encouraging IUCN Commissions to focus specifically on primary forests.

Providing information on the key benefits of primary forests to IUCN Commissions and their members, and on the mechanisms that are most effective in ensuring primary forest conservation.
Are these actions planned for yet:
Yes
