Describe the results/achievements of the activities
The resolution calls for the establishment of a global programme dealing with products that are produced in and around protected areas using sustainable methods. To date the focus of the resolution has been in China where the concept originated, and there have been some very good results including an expanding range of products being marketed, meetings bringing together practitioners, the development of guidance, and some research to investigate the existence of similar programmes elsewhere in the world.
Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
It was not possible to conclude with the establishment of a Specialist Group on this topic under the auspices of the WCPA. TORs were prepared, and considered by the WCPA EXCO, but the proposed changes were not applied, and so there has not been much further interaction with WCPA. WCPA suggested undertaking some research globally, to reflect on the diversity of practice, several workshops have been held in China to bring people together, but the scope of the application of the resolution remains restricted to China.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
The reports describe the possibility of a network of practitioners being established with global coverage and this seems a good way to go.
