Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken:
Since the task force started working on the complex issues surrounding the sustainability of palm oil and other oil crops there has been a noticeable shift in language in media and scientists reporting on this issue, especially in reference to relative yields of different oil crops and land allocation to different oil crops to meet future vegetable oil demands.
What challenges have you encountered in implementing this Resolution and what measures have you taken to overcome them?:
Finding the financial means to fund the work we want to do to meet the goals of the Resolution has been elusive. Without funding it has been very difficult to implement studies the Task Force members had agreed to conduct. A good example is the study on the socio-economic impacts of different oil crops which has not been comprehensively done.
Identify and briefly describe what future actions are planned for the implementation of this Resolution:
Future ActionDescription
OtherThe new mandate of the Oil Crops Task Force requires that we expand our membership to include more members with experience of other oil crops besides oil palm (e.g., soy, rapeseed, peanut etc). The new co-chair will also ensure that the social aspects of vegetable oil production are equally well covered as the environmental ones
Scientific/technical activitiesWe now have funding for implementing several studies that the Task Force considers important for meeting Resolution 061
