This publication sets out a practical approach to spatial biodiversity assessment and prioritisation, which can be applied at the national level in any country. It shows a sequential process for biodiversity assessment, prioritisation and planning, based on a few foundational spatial datasets. This second edition now shows how the approach can help countries to implement the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and monitor progress towards their achievement.

This guidance gives practical advice on how to go about mainstreaming the spatial biodiversity products. It explains how to present the results clearly, formulate effective key messages to suit the target audience and interpret the map categories in different contexts.

These guidelines aim to facilitate improved knowledge of agricultural and plantation forestry ecosystems, and their relationship with other ecosystems in complex landscapes, by providing clarity on how the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology is applied in the context of agricultural and plantation forestry production.
