The conservation status of marine bony shorefishes of the Greater Caribbean

The greater Caribbean biogeographic region covered in this report (representing 38 countries and territories) encompasses an outstanding marine bony shorefish richness of approximately 1,360 species, with many (53%) being endemic. This report provides an overview of the conservation status of greater Caribbean shorefishes, with detailed information available through the IUCN Red List, and gives recommendations.

The environmental challenges facing a Chinese oil company in Chad

The surge in Chinese investments in Africa has brought about a flurry of questions expressing concern over their ecological impact in the host countries. till, the principles and implementation of environmental management by Chinese firms remains largely unknown. This work is an attempt to provide some insight on this subject, based on a case study in Chad, on a project that was initiated in 2009 by the leading Chinese petroleum firm, CNPC.

Comment financer durablement les aires protégées à Madagascar ?

Madagascar, aidé par la communauté internationale, investit depuis dix ans dans la création d'un réseau de 1,5 million d'hectares d'aires protégées. L'analyse coûts/bénéfices montre que cet investissement est économiquement justifié pour le pays et propose, en identifiant les bénéficiaires, des solutions pour le financement durable des coûts de gestion du réseau (augmentation des droits d'entrée des parcs, taxe verte sur les visas, création d'un fond fiduciaire).
