Waterbirds in the UK : the wetland bird survey

How to recognise wild birds.
This booklet discusses the Bird & tree scheme of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
There are modest sanctuaries within the reach of many bird-lovers, proven harbours of refuge for wild winged things and all who own a garden may in some degree own these.
The aim of this booklet is to give a short and simple description of the commonest birds of the country from which they may be identified by the non-scientific person, together with notes on the food they eat that may be considered as "pro" and "con" the interests of the husbandman, gardener or gamekeeper, and also their local names.
This consortium of five organizations is working to collect scientific evidence on wildlife and wildlife habitats. This report gives an overview of the findings, as presented to the Norwich Conference: Climate Change and Wildlife, in September 1999.
