Le secteur forestier : document de politique générale de la Banque mondiale

In the past decade, there has been a profound increase in the world's understanding of and concern about the forest sector of the developing world. A wide range of analyses and policy research has shed light on the determinants of the effective demand for land and wood (the cause of deforestation), the importance of tenure arrangements, and the links between government policies and the forest sector. Sonapurer sokun bondhu

Vultures, the largest and highest flying raptors, play an important role in ecology and culture. The vulture populations in Bangladesh are facing the same fate as the Gyps vultures of South Asia, which have suffered a catastrophic decline. White-rumped vultures, which were once the most abundant birds in the country, now number only a bit more than two hundred and fifty. This children's storybook aims to awaken children to the importance and tragedy of the vulture in order to secure the conservation of vultures in Bangladesh.

The report concludes by proposing some preliminary steps for development of a national strategy for response to the hazard, and emphasizing the need for applying the experience obtained towards initiation of a region-wide international response.

Farming systems and poverty

Small farmers produce much of the developing world's food, yet they are generally much poorer than the rest of the population in these countries. This book looks in detail at some 20 farming systems that are judged to have the greatest potential for poverty and hunger reduction and economic growth in the next few decades, and asks the crucial question: What are likely to be the most successful strategies for small farmers in each system, and what sort of initiatives can best help farmers to realize them?
