Known for its tasty flesh, silver therapon, locally known as ayungin, has been regarded to be one of the most valuable edible native freshwater species in the Philippines. Demands for this fish species remain high which caused the wild stock supply to decline. Due to this growing concern, a hatchery technique was devised by an AQD scientist to aid the deteriorating population of the species in the Philippine waters.

The author commences with a general sketch of bird structure, purposely avoiding histological detail and the elaborate description of anatomical facts which are in the mind of the author not of great use in classification.

This book is an attempt to present natural history in an aesthetic fashion. The author writes in the preface, that he sought to paint a series of pictures, the reflections of scenes and aspects in nature, which in his own mind awaken poetic interest, leaving them to do their proper work.

L' auteur écrit dans la préface que la nécessité s'impose de présenter dès le débat d'un ouvrage de physiologie, les données physico-chimiques essentielles qui ressortent en du fonctionnement de tous les éléments cellulaires et qui constituent par conséquent les phénomènes les plus généraux et fondamentaux de la vie.

Dans cette publication, il y a un certain nombre de leçons concernant l'anatomie. Ces leçons sont très larges et concernent l'économie animale, Organes, muscles et os.
