CITES

This comprehensive publication presents a history of the evolution of CITES. It begins with the basics and guides the reader through its complex structure. The provisions of the Convention are clearly highlighted in the book, and the numerous resolutions and decisions are explained.

A symposium on community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) for the conservation of CITES-listed species was organized by the Austrian Ministry of the Environment and the European Commission in Vienna, Austria, in May 2010. Its aim was to provide the necessary knowledge base for a broad policy discussion within the European Union on the relevance of local conservation programmes for CITES to achieve the goals as set out in its current Strategic Vision 2008-2013 (Res. Conf. 14.2).

The key objective of this Workshop was to gather a ‘steering group’ of government departments, non-government organizations (NGOs) and research institutions in Southeast Asia to raise awareness of the magnitude of the pangolin trade and discuss how to combat the illegal trade.

The European Eel Anguilla anguilla is a commercially important species that is threatened with extinction. International trade has been identified as a principal factor in this species's decline. This report aims to provide up to date information on trade in A. anguilla that is essential for conservation and management purposes.

Reports from non-governmental organizations have raised concerns about the scale of illegal trade in merbau, a timber from nine species in the genus Intsia and there is concern over the sustainability of harvests from natural merbau populations.
