Although all coastal development projects in Lebanon typically require an environmental impact assessment (EIA), biodiversity has rarely been given specific or appropriate consideration in the EIA process. The objective of this report is to present guidelines that specifically address biodiversity inclusion in EIA studies.
The development of this second edition of these guidelines was in part a response to evidence of the widespread incorrect application of the categories to marine protected areas (MPAs). Marine management and sustainable fisheries management are critical elements of good oceans management, but are not the same as protected areas management, where the primary focus is conservation of nature.
Emerging evidence shows that the proximity to nature, including coastal environments, provides many benefits to human health and mental well-being. However, the environmental, social, and emotional impacts of climate change such as sea-level rise and increased flooding pose significant risks for coastal communities and may offset the benefits of living close to the coast.
This report card provides a summary of climate change impacts on coasts and seas in the Pacific island region, and how Pacific islands can respond.
These guidelines aim to assist policy makers and managers in the reduction of the risks to coastal communities, their infrastructure and service-providing ecosystems from tsunamis, storm surges and other coastal hazards within the phased framework of Integrated Coastal Area Management (ICAM).
PANORAMA is a partnership initiative to facilitate learning from success in conservation. It promotes examples of inspiring solutions that showcase how nature conservation can benefit society. This booklet is the second in a series of compilations assembling PANORAMA solution case studies on a defined topic. “Solutions in Focus” zooms in on a topic of interest covered by PANORAMA, allowing to explore common elements and shared learnings across success stories.
Climate change poses serious threats to many coastal and marine systems, including those being managed as protected areas. The following manual describes an approach – Climate Adaptation Methodology for Protected Areas (CAMPA): Coastal and Marine – for developing climate adaptation measures in the management of coastal and marine protected areas.
