Este documento es un resumen del informe técnico sobre esta temática en la cuenca mediterránea. Describe las especificidades del mar Mediterráneo y el fenómeno del cambio climático observado a escala de esta región. Presenta igualmente las características de las cinco especies de Magnoliofitas presentes en sus aguas.

There are a multitude of limiting factors preventing ecosystems, communities, organisms and individuals from adapting to change. Ecological and physical limits comprise the natural limitations to adaptation, associated largely with the natural environment, ranging from ecosystem thresholds to geographical and geological limitations.

This review assessed the suitability of various frameworks, approaches and tools for conducting vulnerability assessments, for use in the EU funded IUCN project “Building Resilience to Climate Change in Coastal Southeast Asia”. In particular their suitability for use at the provincial, community, and household/individual levels of analysis was emphasised.

This report presents a rapid assessment of the vulnerability to climate change of coastal habitats and selected species in the eight focal areas of the IUCN project ‘Building coastal resilience in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand’: Koh Kong and Kampot (Cambodia), Chanthaburi and Trat (Thailand), and Ben Tre, Can Gio, Kien Giang and Soc Trang (Vietnam).

Development and implementation of blue carbon-based activities now requires strategic policy and incentive mechanisms for coastal conservation, restoration and sustainable use, and and disincentives to drain or damage coastal systems. Currently no broad, strategic program exists to achieve this.

The workbook is designed to allow for a dynamic process of marine protected area (MPA) management based on the lessons learnt through piloting the first draft of the workbook in eight MPAs in Kenya, Tanzania and the Seychelles. It takes into account the management issues faced in the WIO, is cost effective and encourages self-assessment by the managers. The Workbook has a complementary website (www.wiomsa.org\mpaworkbook.htm) and CD ROM.

Of the current 750 marine and coastal protected areas that have been created in the Mediterranean, two thirds of these are along the northern coast of the sea. Therefore important habitats along the eastern and southern coast are under-represented. The Mediterranean Representative Areas and Species (MedRAS) project aims at identifying priority habitats and species in these under-represented areas to be managed and protected. The focus of the present report is on Libya.

Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary (PKWS) is one of the most significant coastal wildlife sanctuaries in Cambodia because it maintains a sizeable area of both mangrove forest and evergreen forest, as well as a number of globally threatened species.
