Endangered species

Se pretende que las Categorías y Criterios de la Lista Roja de la UICN constituyan un sistema de fácil comprensión para clasificar especies de alto riesgo de extinción global. El fin general de este sistema es proporcionar un marco explícito y objetivo para la clasificación del espectro más amplio posible de especies según su riesgo de extinción.

The IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria are intended to be an easily and widely understood system for classifying species at high risk of global extinction. The general aim of the system is to provide an explicit, objective framework for the classification of the broadest range of species according to their extinction risk.

Le but de la nouvelle stratégie est d’assurer la protection à long terme des bonobos partout dans leur aire de répartition par la mise en oeuvre d’actions permettant de réduire, et si possible d’éliminer les menaces directes et les facteurs sous-jacents causant le déclin des populations.

The new strategy aims to ensure the long-term protection of bonobos across their range through the implementation of conservation actions designed to reduce, and if possible eliminate, the direct threats and contributing factors that are causing bonobo populations to decline. Given the extremely difficult context (institutional, security, accessibility), particular effort was made to ensure that the choices of strategies and actions were pragmatic and realistic.

TRAFFIC initiated a series of surveys to gather basic data on the status, management, and trade of the American black bear. The purpose of the effort was to establish a baseline of information on the species and to examine trends over a period of years. TRAFFIC published the results of the first two surveys in a previous report. This report culminates the project, summarizing information from TRAFFIC’s third survey and comparing the data it provided to what was learned earlier.

This report contains the most comprehensive assessment of the status and trends of the world's invertebrates conducted to date. It introduces the staggering diversity of invertebrates, ranging from microscopic zooplankton to giant squid. Together these organisms represent around 80% of the known species on our planet.

Ce projet vise à évaluer la valeur socio-économique des espèces d'eau douce en Afrique du Nord, dans le cadre des menaces pesant sur les espèces identifiées et documentées précédemment par la Liste rouge de l'UICN des espèces menacéesTM.

Este proyecto pretende evaluar el valor socio-económico de especies de agua dulce a lo largo de la región del norte de África en el contexto de las amenazas para esas especies tal y como se ha determinado y documentado previamente en la Lista Roja de la UICN de especies amenazadas.

Our knowledge of species diversity within the inland waters of Indo-Burma is poorly documented and the region remains relatively under-surveyed. In this volume we aim to address this knowledge gap and present the most up-to-date information on the distribution and extinction risk of freshwater species in all inland water ecosystems across the Indo-Burma hotspot, and where appropriate, the reasons behind their declining status.

This report from the IUCN Shark Specialist Group includes the first compilation of conservation status assessments for the 282 chondrichthyan species (sharks, rays, and chimaeras) recorded from North American, Central American, and Caribbean waters. The status and needs of those species assessed against the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species criteria as threatened (Critically Endangered, Endangered, and Vulnerable) are highlighted.
