The practices listed in this catalogue are selected on the basis of their potential capacity to mitigate the foreseeable negative effects of climate change, particularly recurrent droughts, floods, strong winds/sand storms and high temperatures.
There are two principles here, both reflecting the natural world. The first is that natural systems are based on cycles, for example water, nitrogen and carbon. Secondly, there is very little waste in natural systems.
This study examines the four options being considered by the European Commission for dealing with indirect land use change (ILUC) arising from the use of biofuels under the Renewable Energy Directive. An alternative approach is developed that would encourage producers and growers to undertake practices that mitigate ILUC. This study identifies a range of ILUC mitigation practices and recommends a market mechanism to encourage such activities through the use of a carbon credit scheme.

This publication, produced in the context of the Regional Programme for West African Marine and Coastal Conservation (PRCM), is a successor to a 2005 volume entitled "Environmental management of offshore oil exploitation and maritime oil transport." The book helped us to better understand the environmental and socio-economic issues and options created by the emerging offshore oil and gas industry.
This study entailed a review of the existing literature relevant to agriculture policy, water policy and the status of various conventions/protocols to which Pakistan is a signatory. It identifies the gaps and makes recommendations on ways and means to address the gaps in the existing documents. Gap analysis techniques include commenting on what the present state is and how one could get to a desired state.
