This report is on the first national conference on CBNRM that was a culmination of a series of three workshops on key topics in CBNRM, namely: community mobilization, enterprise development and natural resource monitoring and management. The objectives of the conference were to reflect on the progress made so far in implementing CBNRM activities, to consider the recommendations from the workshops and to deliberate the way forward.
The theme of the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Session of the GBF was Using Biodiversity to Strengthen Livelihoods. The Forum explored ways and means of integrating poverty alleviation considerations into local, national and regional actions aimed at conserving, using sustainably and sharing equitably the benefits of biodiversity.
The Vietnam Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) was developed by the Ministry of Forestry and the State Committee of Science, in collaboration with WWF and UNDP. I was published in 1994 and approved by the government in 1995. This workshop was a critical assessment of the BAP's three years of implementation.
Esta publicación nos introduce en la relación ancestral entre comunidades y bosques en Mesoamérica. Nos explica cómo esa relación se ha visto afectada por procesos de desarrollo incongruentes con la gestión ambiental y la equidad social. Nos informa también sobre la capacidad organizativa que, a pesar de ello, están logrando consolidar muchas comunidades y grupos indígenas y campesinos.
