Parcs et réserves du Niger : évaluation de l'efficacité de la gestion des aires protégées

Les aires protégées du Niger couvrent environ 6,6% du territoire national. Souvent, l’inadéquation des ressources humaines disponibles, combinée au climat d’insécurité qui règne dans certaines zones, rend ces aires protégées vulnérables aux multiples pressions qui s’exercent sur elles, telles que le braconnage, l’utilisation illégale des terres, l’exploitation du bois et des produits forestiers non ligneux ou l’exploitation minière. Cette étude avance un certain nombre de recommandations pour tenter d’améliorer cette situation.

Biodiversité et signes de reconnaissance agricoles : quelle prise en compte de la biodiversité dans les marques, labels et certifications de productions agricoles?

La présente étude propose donc d’effectuer un état des lieux de la prise en compte de la biodiversité par les signes de reconnaissance du secteur agricole sur la base d’une analyse des cahiers des charges d’un échantillon de ceux-ci. L’état des lieux permettra d’identifier les marges de manoeuvre possibles pour faire évoluer cette prise en compte.

Learning for the future : lessons learned and documentation of the process of independent scientific review panel for Western Gray Whales in Sakhalin

IUCN, as a neutral forum for objectively-based consensus seeking, is facing an ever-increasing demand to conduct independent scientific reviews of controversial development projects. As IUCN gains experience in conducting such processes, it is important to document which approaches lead to success and which ones cause problems, and to draw all these lessons into a more established methodology.

The system of protected area management categories lies at the centre of IUCN's work and its mission; their effective use is of fundamental concern to the Union and its members. This project has looked at the successes, failures, strengths and weaknesses of the categories after a decade of use, with the intention of giving guidance on steps needed to improve their future effectiveness in response to changing needs and conditions.
