IUCN guidelines for gathering of fishers’ knowledge for policy development and applied use

Small-scale fisheries provide food security, livelihoods and income to millions of people but their management still presents a challenge to managers and other stakeholders due to problems in gathering suitable information and its incorporation in fisheries policy. Fishers are a key source of knowledge for assessment of both extractive capacity and value in small-scale fisheries, in addition to providing a broad array of cultural knowledge.

Les aires marines protégées et la pêche

Ce livre s'appuie sur une large synthèse de la littérature scientifique pour analyser les effets que peuvent avoir les aires marines protégées, à la fois sur les ressources halieutiques et sur les pêcheries qui en dépendent.

EAF toolbox : the ecosystem approach to fisheries

The EAF Toolbox is aimed at national and local fisheries management authorities, including fishery managers, scientists and stakeholders looking for practical solutions they can apply given their circumstances and resources. This document represents a subset of the web-based version. Special attention is also placed on governance as key to realize human and environmental sustainability goals. The EAF Toolbox has been designed to guide users through four main EAF management planning and implementation steps.

Shifting baselines : the past and the future of ocean fisheries

Conceptual model on relationships among components related with effects of marine protected areas

This document reviews the present state of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) within the EMPAFISH project. Using the Driver-Pressure-State-Impacts-Response (DPSIR) framework develops a conceptual model which determines the elements that affect MPAs. This evaluation framework developed has helped to select an appropriate suite of indicators to support an ecosystem approach, an evaluation of the MPAs functioning and policy considerations discussion. Gaps derived from the management and policy responses in the MPAs will also be outlined with this framework.
