In international negotiations, especially on biodiversity, local ecological knowledge has been often limited to issues relating to indigenousness. Based on the concepts of heritage and the terroir, approaches have been developed in France, thus making it possible to better understand, conserve and exploit ecological knowledge and associated biodiversity.

Partendo dal rispettivo grado di minaccia, vengono quindi presentate le iniziative di conservazione statali, universitarie e private, per procedere poi ad una stima della necessità di intervento.
One of the major and growing environmental challenges of the 21st century will be the rehabilitation and restoration of forests and degraded lands. But the success of such restoration requires careful planning. This study provides fundamental information for the achievement of knowledge-based ecosystem restoration using native tree species and draws attention to the importance of embedding genetic considerations in restoration activities.
