International cooperation

This book includes the decisions and full report of COP2, the text of the first Protocol adopted under the Carpathian Convention, the Protocol on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological and Landscape Diversity, the Ministerial Declaration of COP2 in Bucharest, and the reports of many other meetings held in the framework of the Carpathian Convention. 

PANORAMA is a partnership initiative to facilitate learning from success in conservation. It promotes examples of inspiring solutions that showcase how nature conservation can benefit society. PANORAMA enables the wider application of such solutions through cross-sectoral global learning and exchange. Through a modular case study format, solutions are dissected into their replicable “building blocks”.

This book aims to provide elements for discussion for those involved in development and development cooperation as practitioners, decision-makers and researchers, at a crucial moment just prior to the Copenhagen Climate Conference. The contributors include researchers from academic institutions, as well as representatives of UN organisations and NGOs.

This publication provides an overview of the world’s shared water resources and insights for managing these resources. Using case studies from around the world, it describes the benefits to be gained from cooperation and the challenges of constructing legal frameworks, institutions, management processes and financing and partnership strategies to govern transboundary waters equitably and sustainably.
