Le Rapport préliminaire sur l'état de l'environnement en Afrique Centrale fait une description des ressources naturelles encore existantes, identifie les opportunités d'utilisation de celles-ci en vue de la lutte contre la pauvreté et le développement durable. En prenant en compte les principaux défis qui sont associés à la réalisation de ces opportunités, il définit des politiques et des mécanismes permettant de les capitaliser.

At the heart of co-management of natural resources is a process of collective understanding and action by local communities and other social actors. The process brings about negotiated agreements on management roles, rights, and responsibilities, making explicit the conditions and institutions of sound decentralised governance. De facto, co-management is about sharing power.

The Ecosystem Approach puts people and their natural resource use practices squarely at the centre of decision-making. Recent studies have brought to light a series of interacting and complex relationships, many with negative feedback loops, between HIV/AIDS and the environment. A comprehensive examination of these relationships and analyses of the quality and breadth of the evidence are lacking.

Cette publication ambitieuse se concentre sur les leçons apprises pendant dix ans d'approches appliquées de la conservation dans le cadre du Programme régional pour l'environnement en Afrique centrale (CARPE), qui opère dans neuf pays couvrant l'intégralité du Bassin du Congo. Cette publication comprend 27 études de cas de conservation appliquée, ainsi que sept articles généraux faisant la synthèse des résultats des études de cas qui couvrent différents domaines thématiques.

This ambitious publication focuses on lessons learned from ten years of applied conservation approaches of the Central African Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE), which operates in nine countries spanning the entire Congo Basin. This publication contains 27 case studies of applied conservation as well as seven overview articles synthesizing the results of the case studies, which cover different thematic areas.

The Situation Analyses of the Wami and Ruvu (including coastal rivers) sub-basins were produced as separate analyses of the status, conditions and key issues affecting ecosystems in each basin using existing available information. The analyses provide information on natural resources (including water), socio-economic issues and the governance structure of water resource management.
