Risk reduction

This project attempts to profile the disaster that took place in Neelum Valley, AJK, Pakistan. Its goal is to strengthen decision-making tools by identifying the main land use factors and land use strategies that affect the vulnerability of communities in Neelum Valley.

The aim of this book is to provide an overview of knowledge and practice in this multarget_idisciplinary field of ecosystems management and disaster risk reduction. The contributors, professionals from the science and disaster management communities around the world, represent state-of-the-art knowledge, practices, and perspectives on the topic.

The research focused on the perceptions of communities on the role of ecosystems for disaster risk reduction, particularly in the context of the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster in Japan. The research was carried out in the region of Sendai, and a study reviewed the institutional setup and mechanisms for Japan’s risk reduction, reconstruction and land use planning.

In 2009, IUCN-Oceania Regional Office in partnership with SOPAC and SPC established the Pacific Resource and Environmental Economics Network (PREEN). The PREEN was established in response to a need by the small but growing group of practitioners in the Pacific for a professional body to share information and access peer support to conduct natural resource and/or environmental economics in the region.
