This book is a primer on multi-regional input-output (MRIO) analysis. It has been written by the world's leading experts on MRIO. It provides descriptions of seven major MRIO tools as well as case studies illustrating their application. It includes chapters on the role of MRIO analysis in global governance showing how the power and elegance of MRIO can bring new dimensions to policy making. 

International trade rules have significant impacts on environmental law and policy, at the domestic, regional and global levels. At the World Trade Organization (WTO), dispute settlement tribunals are increasingly called to decide on environment- and health-related questions. Can governments treat products differently based on environmental considerations? Can they block the import of highly carcinogenic asbestos-containing products or genetically modified crops?

How can the poorer countries of the world be helped to help themselves through freer, fairer trade? This book suggests a radical and realistic new model for managing trading relationships between the richest and the poorest countries. The approach is designed to open up markets in the interests of all and not just the most powerful economies, to ensure that trade promotes development, and to minimise the costs of adjustments.

This publication aims to shed some light on key issues related to biotechnology, trade and sustainable development by providing a balanced overview that is accessible to a wide range of actors in the trade and biotechnology communities. It is intended to be a tool to enable the different stakeholders to identify and articulate their priorities related to biotechnology, and balance these objectives against the various trade interests and obligations.

The compendium shows how the scope of research has evolved at IFPRI, as well as in the wider development community.
